Shale Stabilizer and Filtration Control Aid for Water and  Oil Based Drilling Fluids

Sodium sulfonate asphalt shale stabilizer for use in water and oil based drilling fluids. Sodium Sulfonate Asphalt is partially water soluble and is a chemical treatment for shale control. The insoluble portion of Sodium Sulfonate Asphalt provides physical plugging effect to control unstable shale zones.

Functions:

  • Reduces the filtration rate (HTHP and API) of the drilling fluid.
  • Will increase the viscosity of the mud, due to its partial solubility.
  • Enhances emulsion and thermal stability.
  • Maintains performance at down-hole temperatures in access of 200 degree.

Recommended Treatment:

Concentration in the range of 2 – 8 lb/bbl (5.7 – 23 kg/m3) are recommended to control drilling mud properties. The quantity used would be dependent on the base oil, drilling depth and equipment.

In initial formulation, Sodium Sulfonate Asphalt should be added last.  For existing systems, the product should be added slowly.

Packaging:

Packaged in 25 kg multiwall paper and HDPE sacks.

Legislation and Handling Recommendations:

No Restricted by any regulatory agency.  Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the product prior to use.
